I've been really taking advantage of the last month of summer. I've been mostly resting a shit ton, watching old films and chilling with my partner. But, being the alternative boy that I am, I did manage to complete a few tiny projects. Allow me to brag just a little.
So first there's the CD I burned of Glider and Loveless by My Bloody Valentine. I had fallen in love with Loveless a few weeks back, so I decided to get it on CD as soon as possible. I bought a few blank CDs for 1€ each at a second hand store with the intention of burning some MBV, an album by an underground jazz band and maybe even a Hanatarash recording. But I started with Loveless (the weather has been perfect for shoegaze).
I made collage inlays for the front and back of the case (my first time decorating proper CD packaging and not one of those blasphemous slim ones--) and signed the disc with my tag marker (my sharpies were all dried up).
Now onto the bag that I randomly cooked up last night in a state of complete sleep deprivation...
I've had this one for a while (just plain black), and since I moved most of my pins onto other bags (or just lost them :') I have grown quite tired of the design. Sure, it matched everything easily, but it had no soul. So in yesterday's frenzy, I cut out the star from a pair of jorts that I hadn't worn in over a year (if ever) and sewed it onto the bag by hand. Granted, it's still very simple, and the change isn't groundbreaking or anything, but at least it has SOMETHING to say for itself.
Finally, a somewhat earlier project--my first try with making a zine using collage. Here the process was also pretty intuitive; I spent months gathering magazines, posters and fliers. Then I cut out as many letters as humanly possible out of newspapers and such. Then I grabbed an A4 and folded it zine-style, with a slit down the middle.
I found cool images for backgrounds and glued those on, then placed the words.
I scanned the poor thing (that boy is thick with so many layers of paper, trust!) on my school printer, added some extra details with a pen and then scanned and reprinted that a bunch of times. It was mass production, truly. Now I've still got 10 and no clue what to do with them.
That would be it for my crafts... for now.
